Ethics Alert Dashboard
The beauty industry is full of dirty secrets. Here is what we are currently monitoring and warning our customers about.
The Parent Company Paradox
Many "cruelty-free" brands are owned by massive parent corporations (like L'Oreal, Estรฉe Lauder, or Unilever) that do test on animals for other markets.
Our Stance: We list these brands but flag them clearly. We believe in supporting the cruelty-free division, but we want you to have the full picture so you can decide where your money goes.
"Natural" Means Nothing
The FDA does not legally define the term "natural" for cosmetic labeling. A product can be labeled "100% Natural" and still contain synthetic preservatives.
Our Solution: We ignore the front of the bottle. We read the INCI (International Nomenclature Cosmetic Ingredient) list on the back. If we can't verify an ingredient, it's out.
The Mica Problem
Mica is the mineral that gives makeup its shimmer. Unfortunately, a significant portion of the world's mica is mined using illegal child labor in India and Madagascar.
Action Taken: We are currently auditing our makeup catalog. We prioritize brands that use Synthetic Fluorphlogopite (Synthetic Mica) or can provide supply chain audits proving their natural mica is ethically sourced.
