What This Really Means
The EWG Verifiedโข mark is one of the newest and most comprehensive standards in the beauty industry. Backed by the Environmental Working Group's decades of research, this seal goes beyond just "natural" to focus on chemical safety and toxicity. To earn this mark, a product must first score a "1" or "2" (the safest ratings) in the EWG Skin Deepยฎ database, which rates over 80,000 personal care products based on the hazards associated with their ingredients. Critically, EWG Verified requires full transparency. This is a game-changer for the industry's "Fragrance Loophole," which historically allowed companies to hide hundreds of chemicals under the single word "Fragrance" or "Parfum." To be EWG Verified, a brand must disclose every single component of their fragrance blend. The standard also explicitly bans a long list of ingredients known to be carcinogens, reproductive toxicants, or neurotoxins, including formaldehyde releasers, parabens, and phthalates. It is a holistic health and safety standard for the modern consumer.
